James Coles Wins Maiden England Call-up for India T20Is
England has named a 17-man squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, with James Coles being the notable inclusion, as he wins his maiden England call-up for India T20Is. The 22-year-old left-arm spinner has impressed with his performances for Sussex, in franchise cricket, and for England Lions in recent seasons.
England’s T20I Squad
Harry Brook will captain the team, which features a mix of experienced players and young talent. The squad includes Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, James Coles, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, and Luke Wood.
The series against India marks the start of a new T20I cycle for England, leading into the Olympics and the T20 World Cup in 2028. England’s national selector, Marcus North, stated that the squad was selected to accommodate the tight turnaround between the Test series against New Zealand and the T20I series against India.
Changes to the Squad
The squad features four changes from the T20 World Cup, with Sonny Baker, James Coles, Jordan Cox, and Saqib Mahmood coming in, and Ben Duckett and Jamie Overton missing out due to injury and non-selection.
England’s captain, Harry Brook, will have a challenging task, as he will be leading the team in a T20I against India less than 48 hours after finishing a Test match, if the series decider against New Zealand goes the distance.
Fixtures
The five-match T20I series will begin on July 1 at Chester-le-Street, followed by matches at Old Trafford, Trent Bridge, Bristol, and Southampton.
The series against India will be a crucial test for England, as they look to bounce back from their defeat in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. With a strong squad and a new captain, England will be looking to make a statement in the series.
