IPL 2026: KKR Stay Alive with Dramatic 29-Run Win Over GT

In a must-win clash that lived up to its billing, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 29 runs in Match 60 of IPL 2026, reigniting their playoff aspirations with a dominant batting display and composed bowling effort.

KKR’s Batting Fireworks Set the Stage

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, KKR unleashed a brutal assault on the GT bowlers, finishing with a staggering 247 for 2 in their 20 overs. The innings was propelled by explosive contributions from Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Cameron Green.

Finn Allen was the chief destroyer, capitalizing on two early dropped catches to unleash a blistering 93 off just 35 balls. His knock was laced with 10 sixes and 4 fours, coming at a breathtaking strike rate of 265.71. Allen’s aggression set the tempo after Ajinkya Rahane’s brief 14 off 14 balls.

He shared a crucial 105-run stand for the second wicket with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who displayed maturity beyond his years. The young Indian batter remained unbeaten on 82 off 44 deliveries, striking 7 sixes and 4 boundaries to keep the scoreboard racing.

Green and Raghuvanshi Seal the Deal

After Allen’s dismissal, Raghuvanshi joined forces with Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who provided the late fireworks. Green smashed an unbeaten 52 off just 28 balls, including 4 sixes and 3 fours, as the duo added a quick 108 runs for the third wicket.

For Gujarat, Mohammed Siraj and Sai Kishore managed one wicket each, but were consistently taken apart in the death overs. Fielding lapses, including four dropped catches of top-order batters, proved costly and allowed KKR to build an imposing total.

GT’s Chase Falls Just Short

In reply, GT needed 248 to secure their ninth win of the season but were restricted to 218 for 4. Opener Shubman Gill was in sublime form, blasting 85 off 49 balls with 7 sixes and 5 fours. However, his partnership with Sai Sudharsan yielded only 42 runs before Sudharsan retired hurt after being struck on the arm.

Nishant Sindhu, promoted in the order, failed to score, but Jos Buttler stepped up with a quickfire 57 off 35 balls, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes. Gill and Buttler constructed a 128-run stand for the third wicket, keeping GT in contention.

But the turning point came with the dismissal of Gill, after which the required rate began to climb. Sudharsan returned to the crease and fought till the end, scoring a hard-hitting 53 off 28 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes, but the target proved too steep.

Narine Shines on Milestone Appearance

Sunil Narine, playing his 200th match for KKR, delivered when it mattered most, taking 2 wickets for just 29 runs in his four overs. Saurabh Dubey and Cameron Green chipped in with one wicket each, maintaining pressure at crucial junctures.

The win lifts KKR to seventh place with 11 points from their completed matches, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive. One of their games against Punjab Kings was washed out due to rain. Meanwhile, GT remain in second place with 16 points from 13 matches, still well-positioned to qualify despite the loss.

With both teams delivering high-quality cricket, this clash at Eden Gardens will be remembered as one of the most thrilling encounters of IPL 2026 so far.
