The Knock That Captured Attention
Asked to bat first at the iconic Eden Gardens, KKR posted a formidable total of 247 for the loss of just two wickets. Central to this scoring spree was Raghuvanshi, whose unbeaten 82 off just 44 deliveries proved to be the cornerstone of the innings. His knock was a display of controlled aggression, featuring four boundaries and an impressive seven maximums that electrified the home crowd.
Former Indian batter and IPL veteran Ambati Rayudu was quick to laud the youngster’s technical growth. Speaking on ESPN Cricinfo’s Time-out show, Rayudu highlighted the evolving nature of Raghuvanshi’s game. “His batting is getting better. He has become more confident and is turning into a batter who can play across each phase of the game,” Rayudu observed. “This is a very unique skill, and the way he hits sixes has also improved. So far, Angkrish has just hit sixes against full-balls, but soon he will develop skills to hit other lengths too.”
A Consistent Force for Kolkata
Originally from Delhi but representing Mumbai in the domestic circuit, Raghuvanshi has quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the KKR batting lineup. Throughout the 2026 season, he has been the team’s most consistent performer, accumulating 422 runs across 12 matches. With five half-centuries to his name, an average of 42, and a strike rate of 146, he has become a nightmare for opposing bowlers.
Beyond his prowess with the bat, Raghuvanshi has also showcased his utility behind the stumps, contributing with four catches and a stumping. Rayudu, who knows a thing or two about winning titles with MI and CSK, noted that Raghuvanshi’s temperament sets him apart. “The player is seeing his graph grow and looks like a cricketer who can be a match-winner in a few years down the line,” Rayudu added. “The young batter has got lots of potential and time and doesn’t look hurried against the pacers, which is a very good sign.”
The Road to the Playoffs
While the victory against Gujarat provides a much-needed morale boost, the path to the playoffs remains narrow for the Kolkata-based side. Currently sitting seventh on the points table with 11 points, KKR has two critical home fixtures remaining against the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals.
For Ajinkya Rahane’s side to secure a playoff berth, the equation is clear but difficult:
- They must win both of their remaining matches to reach 15 points.
- They require Punjab to lose their final two encounters.
- They need favorable results from Rajasthan and Chennai, hoping neither team secures more than one victory in their remaining matches.
